There was no more food left.

The lights went off, leaving her in an achromatic void. She stared forward into the nothingness with a sense of unease.

Emptiness.

Through the darkness, the Liaison’s voice rang out once more: “What are you going to do now?”

She was out of ideas. “Can I phone a friend?”

“Seriously?” Somewhere, there was a distant rustling. “Whatever. Fine.”

A phone dropped from the ceiling – whatever ceiling there was – suspended by a curled telephone cord.

Emptiness.

Emptiness with a hint of something.

A corded telephone.

She walked up to it, as much as she could walk. Her hands trembled as she picked up the phone.

“Hello?”
