“Is there anything truly transformative about fanfiction? Or is it just an excuse to worship media and never come up with anything new?” Drew asked, staring up into the lamp positioned uncomfortably close to his retinas.

“I have no idea,” Josie admitted plainly.

“So that's why I'm quitting. It's a waste of my time and it doesn't do anything. And it's weird.”

“Weird?”

“Yeah. Well, that part's my fault. I think I was unknowingly using it to vent some fetishes I didn't know I had yet.”

Josie took a sip of their tea, then put it down and rolled their finger around the rim. “Like toasters?”

“No! Um. Well.” He hadn’t thought about that one before. His mouth was uncomfortably dry, and this time it wasn’t just because of Mr. Thirsty.

“You can think about it. I think that’s enough talking for today.” Josie gently put the cup of tea down on the side table next to their tools. Drew watched them inexorably reach for the drill.
